Traveling is a lot of fun, but it can disrupt your daily routine and your body’s balance. That’s why so many people complain of things like motion sickness, body ache, headaches, and dizziness when they’re traveling. Here are some Ayurvedic tips that will walk you through an easy transition from home to the hotel room.

Prepare for your trip beforehand

  • If it’s a long trip, take your yoga mat so you can do your asanas without breaking your routine.
  • Carry your abhyanga oil suitable for the time of the year and your state of balance
  • If your stomach is sensitive to new flavours, carry your own cooker and make yourself a simple dinner in your hotel using rice, mung dal, salt, and spices.

While travelling

  • Take your own food and water for the duration of your journey so don’t have to rely on meals provided by the airline or trains.
  • For long flights and train journeys, rub castor oil on your eyes, a drop of nasya oil in your nose and oil your ears with sesame oil.
  • Avoid sleeping while travelling. This will help you regularize to the time of the place you are travelling to.

After reaching your destination

  • Let yourself adjust to the new place. You can meditate for a while or do abhyanga to calm yourself down
  • Try keeping your dinacharya as close to normal as possible. Meditate and practice yoga in the morning
  • Try to follow a consistent sleep cycle
  • Eat at regular times

A balanced vata dosha helps your body to adjust to the new environment when you reach the destination. So include vata balancing herbs and food ingredients in your diet a week or two before you plan on travelling.
