Control Hyperacidity by Avoiding these Foods

Hyperacidity is the condition in which there is an increased acid level in your stomach. According to Ayurveda, hyperacidity is caused due to an aggravation of pitta dosha(heat element) in the body. Ayurveda recommends that you change your diet accordingly.

Here are some foods that should be avoided to pacify Pitta and relieve hyperacidity.

Spicy Food

We all love a bit of spice in our food, but black pepper, garam masala, and red and green chillies are all heating in nature, meaning that they aggravate the already hot pitta dosha, causing acidity. If you loathe the idea of abstaining from these spices completely, have them in moderation or on occasions.

Oily Food

Pitta tends to be oily and liquid in nature. To balance this oiliness, you must to opt for foods that are dry and dense, such as oats, potatoes, beans and most vegetables.

Citrus Fruit

Fruits like lemon, grapefruit, and oranges are acidic in nature. Owing to the high level of citric acid in them, they tend to irritate the digestive tract. This, in turn, aggravates acid reflux and worsens your heartburn. Another reason to avoid these foods is that they aggravate the Pitta by causing a build-up of heat in the body.

Tea & Coffee

Coffee and tea irritate the digestive system and cause hyperacidity, peptic ulcers and a huge array of stomach related disorders. A great substitute for coffee and tea is Brahmi tea, which provides calming energy and also eases stomach related issues.
