Cooking is one of the simplest ways to bond with your child. It develops their fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination. In addition, it teaches them an essential life skill and can also help them improve their Math skills!

  • Kids can help rinse vegetables and put the groceries in place.
  • Let your child set the table before the meal is served.
  • Involve them in meal preps and reading out recipes to you.

Children learn by experiencing. Involving them in the kitchen will develop a positive outlook towards healthy food which also happens to be the foundation of good nutrition. Cooking can also be a way to spend some quality time with your child. It gives you an opportunity to plan meals together, understand how their day was and encourage them to develop fine motor skills and eye-hand coordination

Depending on what you think is safe for your child, listed below are a few ways to involve them in the kitchen.

  • Kids can help put the groceries in place.
  • If your kid enjoys working with water, ask them to help you rinse vegetables. Teach them about the textures and taste of the vegetable.
  • Involving them in meal preps can be a safe way to involve them in the kitchen. Measure out the ingredients and let your kid enjoy mixing and stirring
  • Turn your cooking time into a reading time for your child. Have them read you the recipes and name the ingredients that you need to use
  • If you feel like your child can handle the blade, allow him/her to peel, chop or dice fruits and vegetables
  • Let your child set the table before the food is served. You can also encourage him/her to create name cards for each member’s seating
