Ayurvedic wisdom is something the entire family can benefit from. By adding a few daily rituals into your usual mix, you can start preventing sickness and disease today and stay healthy throughout the year.
Warm water and lemon
Freshly squeeze the juice of ½ lemon into a cup of warm water and drink it every morning on an empty stomach. Lemon keeps your digestive tract free of toxin build up and also holds vitamins and minerals.
Scraping your tongue
Use a tongue scraper or the edge of a stainless steel spoon. Scrape the tongue gently working from back to front. It usually takes 14 strokes to get the tongue clean. Make sure you don’t scrape it raw. A pretty pink colour of the tongue indicates that all the organs are healthy and the digestive tract is clean.
Take one banana, 1 cup romaine lettuce, ½ Apple, 1 tablespoon chia seeds, 2 teaspoon ginger, 3 dates pitted, 2 tablespoons almonds (soaked), and 3 cups of water. Blend all these ingredients to form a smoothie and drink it for breakfast. As Ayurveda encourages seasonal diet, try incorporating as many seasonal fruits and veggies as possible into your daily meals
Oil nourishes the skin, relaxes the nervous system, and removes impurities from the blood. Use sesame oil or almond oil for Vata dosha, coconut oil or olive oil for pitta dosha and sunflower oil or grapeseed oil for Kapha Dosha. Gently heat the oil before starting and use circular strokes over the joints and up-and-down strokes over the limbs.
Dry powder massage
Massaging a body with dry powders will stimulate the lymph and promote circulation. The dry powder can be a simple single ingredient rub or a mixture. For Vata dosha, use chickpea, mung, urad, and brown lentil. For Pitta dosha, use chickpea, adzuki beans, soy, and urad. And for Kapha dosha, use adzuki, chickpea, mung, and red lentil. Simply rub the powder on warm skin and rinse off with water.
By incorporating these simple practices into your daily routine, Ayurveda guarantees that you will have a healthier and more refreshing life. Why don’t you start with them and tell us what changes they’ve made to your life and how they’ve added to your wellbeing?
